Armenian cuisine in Riga
Pie Džan Džana is an Armenian café in Purvciems, at Augusta Deglava iela 69B: here we grill meat over real charcoal, wrap dolma in vine leaves, bake gata and brew Armenian coffee.
Our principle is simple: we cook with heart and feed you like family. The portions are generous, and the table is already laid.
What «jan» means
In Armenian «ջան» (jan) is a warm word for those close to you: «dear», «darling». That is how Armenians address family and friends — and that is how we welcome our guests.
The Armenian table is family
In Armenia people do not sit down at the table merely to eat. The whole family gathers: the elders at the head, the children beside them, and the guest is seated in the place of honour. Lavash is broken by hand and passed around, and a toast is raised for those who are present.
These traditions carry a taste passed from generation to generation: khorovats on charcoal, dolma in vine leaves, gata that Armenian families bake for celebrations. Come with your family or your friends — guests are always welcome. As Armenians say: «Բարի գալուստ» — welcome!
